Description

The goal of the NSF CISE CAREER Proposal Writing Workshop is to introduce junior faculty to the Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program with specific focus on CISE disciplines, and to help them prepare competitive and successful CAREER proposals. The  CAREER program serves a critical role in the National Science Foundation’s efforts to identify, foster and support the nation’s most promising junior faculty in both research and education. Early-stage faculty often seek guidance with respect to grant writing and evaluation but have limited time and/or opportunities to do so with Program Directors at NSF.

During this workshop, young faculty members will have the opportunity to improve their skills in proposal writing, as well as interact with CISE  Program Directors from the CISE divisions of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (ACI), Computing and Communication Foundations (CCF), Computer and Network Systems (CNS) and Information & Intelligent Systems (IIS) and with recent CISE CAREER awardees. The major components of the workshop include presentations about the CAREER program and proposal writing as well as experience sharing and mock panel. This is the only such CISE-sponsored workshop for the year 2014. Up to 180 CAREER-eligible faculty may attend this workshop. Registration is required for attending this workshop.

A limited number of travel support awards will be made available for faculty from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Minority Education Institutes (MEI) to attend this workshop. The workshop will be a unique opportunity for HBCU/MEI faculty to network with recent NSF CAREER awardees and NSF Program Directors.

The 1-day event is scheduled for March 31, 2014 at the Hilton-Arlington,  which is easily accessible by air, rail and roads. The location is a block away from the NSF building making it convenient for attendees to interact with other CISE and NSf  Program Directors.
