2004-2005 Academic Year------------------------------------- CS Seminar, Wednesday May 25th, ST2 Room 430A, 11am ------------------------------------- Title: "Building Trust in Computing" Glenn Schoonover CISSP MCSE, Security Solutions Specialist, Microsoft Federal, Washington DC. Abstract: Security is a top priority for Microsoft, a top priority in terms of our Research Development,a top priority in the way we build products and a top priority in terms of out communications with customerss and helping them get the products configured properly. Security will remain a top priority because it's the right thing to do. In terms of delivering on the more secure systems there are three general things that we do. The first is advancing hte technology. Microsoft spends over $6 billion a year on research and development. Over one third of that is directly security focused, and the other two-thirds all tie in and relate to that seccurity work, all the new code being reviewed and going thrrough the process of threat modeling. With big advances on the technology front I'll spend most of my time talking about the progress, milestones and the road ahead there. We also provide guidance to out customers, and we've stepped that up tremendously. There has been a much improved dialogue over the last year from being clearer about how to use the capabilities of out technology and to maximize the investment in our technology. And finally, working with the leaders in industry, we are making sure that we are adhering to open standards and maintaining dialogue with federal government and law enforcement. |
