George Mason Partners with IntelliDyne to Develop Undergraduate Scholarship - November 28, 2006 (By Jennifer Freeman)

George Mason alumnus Robert Grey (BA '89), president and CEO of IntelliDyne, will donate $60,000 to The Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering to create the IntelliDyne Distinguished Undergraduate Scholarship. The scholarship will provide the Volgenau School with the means to compete with other universities that are able to provide “full-ride” scholarships to top high school students. “The Volgenau School is a comparatively new school, having recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, and we simply do not have the funding and alumni count of older schools,” says Dean Lloyd Griffiths. “In order to acquire the very best students, the Volgenau School must provide resources comparable with those offered by other universities in the commonwealth and in the nation. Scholarships like this one allow George Mason to bring some of the best high school graduates to Northern Virginia.”

The IntelliDyne scholarship will be awarded to a full-time, in-state freshman student pursuing a degree in the Volgenau School in the fall of 2007. The student will be eligible for priority access to courses, opportunities for research and scholarship commensurate with his or her talent and background and an opportunity to work with a mentor whom IntelliDyne will choose from among its employees. By partnering with the Volgenau School, IntelliDyne will be able to sponsor or propose a project in the senior design capstone class of the recipient’s major and come to campus to deliver a lecture to a class. Both opportunities provide the corporation with access to and visibility before many more students and faculty members. “IntelliDyne appreciates the opportunity to provide a full-ride scholarship for one of the nation’s top high school scholars to attend one of Virginia’s best universities,” says IntelliDyne’s Grey. “Working with the Volgenau School, we hope to help attract top-notch students who will one day become major players in the nation’s information technology industry.”

The scholarship recipient will be selected from among next year's freshmen who have indicated a major in the Volgenau School; there is no separate application process. High school seniors who are interested in the IntelliDyne Distinguished Undergraduate Scholarship should apply for admission to George Mason by Jan. 15, 2007, to be eligible for consideration. The scholarship recipient will be announced in spring 2007.
