INFS-760: Spring 2009 Documents and Announcements

  1. Important guidelines
    1. The mid-term exam is on 24 March and the final exam is on 12 May, and you must attend both. There will be no alternative exam dates!
    2. All homework must be done individually by the submitting student. You may not collaborate with other students, and you may not consult the work of others (for example, from previous semesters of INFS-760, or from the Web). In particular, in submitting a homework assignment you implicitly declare that you have complied with this requirement. I take the honor code seriously!
    3. Classroom etiquette:
      1. All mobile phones must be turned off for the duration of the lecture.
      2. The use of laptops is strictly limited to note-taking.
      3. Late entries and early exits should be avoided, but are permitted -- however, a student is allowed one entry and one exit per lecture!
      4. Each lecture is 150 minutes; therefore the time slot 4:30-7:10 allows for one 10 minute break.
  2. General information
    1. Essential data
    2. Class schedule
    3. About final grades
    4. About using e-mail
    5. About faxing homework
  3. Slides These are sets of slides that have been edited from the published slides that accompany the textbook. They are smaller sets, including only those that are discussed in class. Also, some of the errors in the originals are corrected and some clarifications added.

  7. Announcements
    1. Here is a solution of Problem 12 in Homework 2, which was one of the 9 problems whose solutions were requested by students but not done for reasons of time. With this solution, it can now be assumed that students know how to solve all 24 problems.
    2. A fix for our misery?
    3. In response to requests, I have posted Homework 4, a week ahead of time. It has only 8 problems and it is due at the beginning of the last lecture (the review session). At this point (after the April 14 lecture) you should be able to solve problems 1 and 3.
    4. We moved! As of Monday 20 April, our offices are in the new Engineering building. My room number is 4415, and the GTA's room number is 4456.
    5. Graded Homework 4 will be available for pickup on Monday May 11 (1 day before the final), in the GTA office Eng-4456, between 5:00 and 6:00.
