There are three major airports, and one train station that service the
Washington DC metro area. Driving directions (below) were provided by
the hotel, they can also be downloaded
in PDF form.
We have also added directions for using public transit to get to the
hotel.
In addition, for all three airports, it is possible to get Supershuttle service, which provides door-to-door service to most homes, offices, or hotels in the DC area. To make reservations, call 1-800-BLUE-VAN at least 24 hours in advance.
Dulles International
IAD is located west of DC in suburban Virginia
Driving directions to conference hotel (30 miles, perhaps an hour's drive):
- Take the Dulles Access Road to I-66 East.
- Continue on I-66 East and follow the signs for Constitution Avenue.
- Continue on Constitution Avenue to 14th Street and turn right.
- Follow 14th Street to Independence Avenue and turn left.
- Turn right at 10th Street (also labeled as L¡ÇEnfant Plaza Drive).
- At the top of the hill (2 blocks down) you will see, on your left, a large glass pyramid. You will turn left, on the right side of the pyramid
- Pull up to the Hotel, the valet will park your car for you
Transit directions to conference hotel:
- Take the Washington Flyer Coach Service
from Dulles to the West Falls Church Metro station ($8.00)
- Take the Orange line metrorail
train in the direction of New Carrolton to L'Enfant plaza ($2.35 off-peak, $2.85 peak, about 30 min)
- Exit at the L'Enfant Plaza stop, follow the signs in the plaza to the
L'Enfant
Loews hotel
A taxi from Dulles should cost roughly $45 - $50. For Dulles, the Super Shuttle costs $25 each way; additional passengers $8 each way (you must make a reservation in advance!).
Reagan National
DCA is located in SW DC ... the hotel is very metro accessible from Reagan, so we recommend using public transit.
Driving directions to conference hotel (perhaps a 15 minute drive):
- Take I-395 North or US-1 North to the 14th Street Bridge.
- Follow 14th Street to Independence Avenue and turn right.
- Follow 14th Street to Independence Avenue and turn left.
- Turn right at 10th Street (also labeled as L¡ÇEnfant Plaza Drive).
- At the top of the hill (2 blocks down) you will see, on your left, a large glass pyramid. You will turn left, on the right side of the pyramid
- Pull up to the Hotel, the valet will park your car for you
Transit directions to conference hotel:
- Take the Yellow line metrorail
train in the direction of Mt. Vernon to L'Enfant Plaza ($1.35 off-peak, $1.40 peak, about 10 min)
- Exit at the L'Enfant Plaza stop, follow the signs in the plaza to the
L'Enfant
Loews hotel
A taxi from National should cost roughly $10.00 - $15.00. For National, the Super Shuttle costs $12 each way; additional passengers $8 each way (you must make a reservation in advance!).
Baltimore Washington International
BWI is located just south of Baltimore, MD
Driving directions to conference hotel (perhaps an hour and fifteen minute's drive):
- Follow signs to 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway)
- Take 295 in the direction of Washington, DC.
- Continue on 295 go route 50
- Take route 50 West
- 50 West will become New York Avenue, follow New York Avenue to 7th Street NW
- Turn left on to 7th Street
- Follow 7th Street to Independence Avenue and turn right.
- Turn left at 10th Street (also labeled as L¡ÇEnfant Plaza Drive).
- At the top of the hill (2 blocks down) you will see, on your left, a large glass pyramid. You will turn left, on the right side of the pyramid
- Pull up to the Hotel, the valet will park your car for you
Transit directions to conference hotel:
- Take the Penn line
of the Marc train from BWI to Washington. The Washington stop is at Union station. (times of operation very constrained, roughly $6, about an hour)
- Take the Red line metrorail
train in the direction of Shady Grove to Metro Center
- At Metro Center, take the Orange train in the direction of Vienna or Blue train in the
direction of Franconia / Springfield to
L'Enfant plaza (from Union Station: $1.35, about 15 min)
- Exit at the L'Enfant Plaza stop, follow the signs in the plaza to the
L'Enfant
Loews hotel
A taxi from BWI should cost roughly $55 - $65. For BWI, the Super Shuttle costs $31 each way; additional passengers $11 each way (you must make a reservation in advance!).
Union Station
If you elect to travel by train (AmTrack), you will arrive at Union Station, which is not terribly far from the hotel. A taxi ride will be quick and cheap (less than $10). If, however, you would prefer public transit:
- Take the Red line metrorail
train in the direction of Shady Grove to Metro Center
- At Metro Center, take the Orange train in the direction of Vienna or Blue train in the
direction of Franconia / Springfield to
