Work with your group
The point of this exercise explore dark patterns.
From your reading, you know that they are very common,
and that some are very serious.
We will focus on dark
patterns that you voted as most common:
- Disguised Ads
- Hard to Cancel
- Preselection
Find examples from this list that you think are especially noteworthy
and be prepared to share with the class.
You should also note what you think an appropriate
alternative (ideally from a competitor) that implements
the necessary functionality without resorting to dark patterns.
Explain how you would sell your proposal
to the site owner, assuming you were on the development team.
Restriction: Pick web sites where usability is decent.
Avoid obviously malicious sites.
We'll share later in class.
