The George Mason University Computer Science Department is celebrating its continued and rapid growth, as our recent accomplishments have solidified our place as one of the top programs in the country.

We are proud to be ranked #36 on CSRankings, a testament to the high quality of our research activity. Our faculty includes 78 experts in a wide range of fields, including cybersecurity, cryptography, systems and networks, machine learning and data mining, artificial intelligence, robotics, computer vision, natural language processing, theory, databases, bioinformatics, computer graphics, HCI, and software engineering.

Over the past three years, we have undertaken a significant hiring effort that has resulted in the addition of 40 new faculty members, including 30 tenure and tenure-track faculty and 10 teaching faculty. This has allowed us to expand our educational offerings and provide our students with even more opportunities to learn and grow.

Our department has also seen a huge increase in enrollments, growing from 550 undergraduate students in 2012 to over 2,200 today. We have nearly 200 PhD students, and over 950 Masters students enrolled in four MS programs. Our research is also thriving, with around $5 million in annual expenditures, 22 recipients of the NSF CAREER Award, five IEEE Fellows, and three ACM Fellows.

We are proud of our accomplishments and look forward to continuing to provide our community with the best possible education and research opportunities.
