Chris McFadden, BS ’96, a longtime leader in technology innovation and alumni engagement, was inducted into George Mason University College of Engineering and Computing Dean’s Academy of Excellence. The Dean’s Academy of Excellence is a selective honor established to recognize alumni and partners who have achieved distinction in their professions while maintaining a meaningful, sustained connection to the university. Induction into the academy is typically reserved for individuals whose careers exemplify leadership, innovation, service, and impact aligned with the university’s mission.

McFadden is chief technology officer at Quorum, a public affairs software company, where he leads engineering and technology across platform reliability, AI, security, and IT operations. Since joining Quorum, he has helped lead platform modernization, supported the integration of acquisitions into a more cohesive platform, and helped advance the company’s AI-first engineering approach and its use of AI in products

With more than two decades of experience, McFadden has built and scaled software platforms across government, media, e-commerce, and SaaS. Before joining Quorum, he held senior engineering leadership roles at SparkPost, MessageBird, and Discovery Communications.

At SparkPost, McFadden played a key role in the company’s evolution from an on-prem enterprise software business into a large-scale cloud platform, supporting significant growth and more than 1 billion messages per day at peak. He also helped guide the company through a successful acquisition. Across his leadership roles, McFadden has focused on building strong engineering teams, improving reliability and execution, and helping companies scale, modernize, and innovate through periods of growth and change.

In addition to his undergraduate degree from George Mason, McFadden holds a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. He completed part of his early education in Ireland and holds dual U.S.–Irish citizenship, an experience that helped shape his global perspective early in his career.

McFadden remains actively involved with George Mason as an external advisory board member for the Computer Science Department. He regularly participates in student panels, capstone reviews, and mentoring activities, contributing to the academic and professional development of current students.

“Our students benefit enormously from Chris’s engagement,” said Songqing Chen, computer science department interim chair. “His real-world‑ perspective helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice.”
