The department has 80 full-time faculty members with wide-ranging research interests including artificial intelligence, algorithms, computational biology, computer graphics, computer vision, cryptography, databases, data mining, parallel and distributed systems, real-time systems, robotics, security, software engineering, and wireless and mobile computing.
CS faculty have received 26 prestigious NSF CAREER awards, and we have three ACM Fellows and five IEEE Fellows. Research expenditures are nearly $5 million annually. In the latest NSF Higher Education Research & Development (HERD) Survey of Research Expenditures, Mason is ranked 12th nationwide in total expenditures and 10th nationwide in federally funded expenditures in Information and Computer Sciences.
